An easy solution for a tough decision
North Carolina was a long distance from her home in Philadelphia’s Penrose Park, but Mrs. Renfrew* knew she would have to move there for a while. Her aging mother was there and after a visit, Mrs. Renfrew realized the woman needed help on a daily basis. She had to go, but her husband needed to remain in Philadelphia a while longer to qualify for his pension with the Philadelphia Police Department. He had one pension already coming from 20 years in the U.S. Navy. The two pensions together would give the couple the income they needed for a comfortable retirement.
So she would go, he would stay, but it no longer made sense for them to keep their house; instead they needed a temporary solution for Mr. Renfrew. With Mrs. Renfrew’s mother’s situation driving their decision, they would set up Mr. Renfrew in an apartment in Philadelphia while his wife went south. A new complex under construction nearby would be perfect for them. The sale of their home would give them the financial basis for their plan of action.
Mrs. Renfrew learned about Piedmont after hearing an ad on the radio. The Piedmont purchase program seemed to be exactly what she was looking for and she contacted Piedmont to get further details. She loved the idea of a flexible closing date. She needed the flexibility so that when the new apartment complex was completed and ready for their occupancy, they could make the move without carrying their old home for any length of time. The apartment could be ready at any time.
She got the notice. They had just two weeks to make the move. She immediately contacted our office and we put together a settlement schedule for her home that would enable the couple to make their move in that short time frame. With all her concerns about tending to her mother’s needs while making sure that her husband would be settled, it was a great relief when Piedmont took care of their house sale.
The Renfrews were delighted with the convenience and flexibility of the transaction. They left the settlement completely satisfied that all of their expectations were met as Piedmont fulfilled its promises.
